Sources and methodology
Where the facts come from
I use primary sources first. The main ones:
- The official portal of the Egyptian Cabinet for citizenship by investment: home page, investment programmes, steps to apply, frequently asked questions, benefits of citizenship and approved agents.
- Regulation (EU) 2018/1806 for the Schengen visa requirement.
- Practice notes and data published by BRIDGES: the Egypt programme page, the passport index, and articles on the four routes, costs, visa-free travel, dual citizenship, residence permits, real estate, taxes, applicants from Russia and Egypt versus Turkey.
How I check and date information
- Each article shows an "Updated" date. It changes only when the facts are reviewed.
- Investment amounts and the fee are quoted as the official portal publishes them, and figures from BRIDGES are labelled as such.
- Where sources differ, I show both. Examples: the preliminary decision (3 to 6 months on the steps page, at most 3 months on the portal home page), the number of visa-free destinations (47 in the BRIDGES index, about 50 in other BRIDGES articles) and whether the fee is per application or per applicant.
- Information I could not confirm in official sources, such as the law and decree numbers, the rules for the wife under Article 6, the required visits to Cairo, the E-2 treaty date and the US visa suspension, is marked as coming from BRIDGES.
How often the guides are updated
All articles are reviewed at least once a quarter, and immediately after the government changes the rules. I watch three topics most closely: the investment amounts, the visit requirements and processing times.
